Inventor 2008 is eigenlijk beta versie!

All,

Here is some clarification on operating systems..

Inventor 11 - no Vista support

Inventor 2008 - will install on Vista and since we support Direct X
performance is on par with the XP version. We will use the shipping Inventor
2008 build as a Vista Beta and are in the process of setting up a beta
portal to collect issues and provide support. We will post the details here
after Inventor 2008 starts shipping - in mid April.

When we have met or exceeded our quality requirements we will officially
support Windows Vista.

As noted Inventor 2008 will also install as a 32 bit application on the
64bit OS - providing access to 4G of address space.

We will keep you posted here and on the blog as things change.

Clearly Autodesk is more concerned on showing off their new productline each year. I wish they would spend some time actually creating a well put together piece of software. It's known for a long long time that Vista is comming. It's absolutly unthinkable the a company as large as Autodesk is not able to provide their users with up to date software. Forcing the users to buy an old OS on a new system. It's sad, really really sad. I used to be a big big AutoCAD fan, but since 2004 I noticed many dissapointments. Not suporrting Inventor running on Vista is just another dissapointment to at to the list. Also the AUGI wish live can't do much good, it seems. Just 2 out of 10 items were chosen. Wich didn't even include the nr 1! So Is autodesk really listening to it's customers? My guess is that the Autodesk Image on the market is the only thing that really matters. I, just pains me to see that Solidworks already has a Vista version out. Come on Autodesk the large community of users made you to where you are today, don't leave us out in the cold. Step up, and get back in line with the new technologies of today!

I agree. And what's more, Autodesk still doesn't have 64bit software. A bit strange for a World-Leader in CAD software don't you think? Well, as long there's a future there's still hope! ;-)

  3. I agree with some points.
The AUGI list, sure it's helpfull! We have to keep pushing Autodesk! Last year Pete Lord was at our company to listen to our requirements. So I guess they do listen, but they might set the wrong priorities!
Ya Vista, I guess for companies it's not making a difference, since there aren't a lot, if there are already, that will switch to Windows Vista imidiatly. There is also all the other software to be suported by Vista. But indeed it's a pain in the ass having to buy Windows XP will you can have Vista for the same price!
The 64bit version. I heard a rumor that there would come an Inventor 2008-64bit version. But that I will check for sure next month on the End-User day in Belgium!
